There is a statutory duty for schools to promote British Values. These values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs underpin and are inherent in the school’s ethos, curriculum and key aims which are to ensure all members of the school community:

HOW DO WE COVER DEMOCRACY?
- We have a very vocal student council, with students elected from Years 7 to 13
- A member of our school has represented Derbyshire at the Youth Parliament
- Celebrated the anniversary of Women’s Voting Rights Had a Holocaust Memorial Day
- Students attend our Governors meetings
- Head Boys and Girls are elected by our staff and students
- MP’s and Political Leaders come into school- Patrick Mcloughlin, Caroline Lucas, Pauline Latham and Jonathan Bartlett
- We have a thriving Debating Society

- In PDC we have taught units on Democracy, Political Systems in the UK, The Role of Parliament an d the Monarch
